Dental Care for Children

Dental care is essential for all of us, but it is particularly important for children, whose primary teeth are more susceptible to enamel damage.

Establishing effective dental hygiene habits and a schedule of regular check-ups can help your child to maintain good oral hygiene throughout their lifetime.

Why is dental care for children so important?

Children have different dentition than adults as well as specific dental needs that are unique to them. These needs may include fluoride applications, dental sealants or education in oral hygiene.

Our practice focuses on prevention through patient and parent education, so your child can enjoy a cavity-free future. Regular check-ups with our team allow us to monitor your child’s oral development from infant to adulthood.

When should my child start going to the dentist?

Your child should have their first check-up within 6 months of the eruption of their first tooth. At this time Dr Amin and the rest of the dental team can familiarise your child with the practice surroundings, which is essential for building trust.

In addition to booking regular dental check-ups for your child, it is important you help establish good oral hygiene habits at home. Teach your child how to brush and floss their teeth and help them maintain a balanced, healthy diet. If you have any concerns about your child’s dental health or oral development, we welcome you to ask questions.

What should I do if my child is scared of the dentist?

If your child has dental anxiety, you can help alleviate their fears by telling them about their appointment in advance and answering any questions they might have. Your attitude toward the dentist can influence your child. Approach dental check-ups with positivity and encourage your child to do the same.

Our dental practice is child-friendly, and each member of our team is caring and gentle. Dr Amin is highly experienced in treating children and nervous patients. Let us know ahead of time if your child is worried about their visit and we will ensure their comfort and help to alleviate their anxiety.

We invite you to call us on 01474 352 990 or visit our practice for a tour to learn more about how we can care for you and your family.
